Nanu: terminally ill dog gets his forever family

And the story we have been so eager to share with you… Our sweet silly boy NANU is adopted.

His journey hasn’t been smooth, but it wouldn’t be him if it worked out any other way.

We rescued Nanu from the chain, deprived of any stimulation or love. Along his many behaviour challenges and a silly personality, we found out Nanu has two serious heart defects which make him terminally ill.

We remember hearing the diagnosis… he likely won’t live more than 5 years… can’t be medicated… can’t be operated… we were prepared to give him the world but all that was left was to love him and hope someone still gives him a chance… deep down we accepted he’d be “ours”.

And after years at the kennels, someone messaged for him. We shared what there was to share… he faints when he’s over excited, he can be reactive on leash, he pees when he’s nervous, he is the energy level of a malinois but the stubbornness of a staffy… the list kept going and we just saw this wonderful person take everything in her stride and say YES, this is the dog I want

The long process of preparation began, Nanu moved to a foster home, he got neutered (oh god that was a stressful day!!) and we booked his flight.

Our volunteer flew with Nanu to Sweden, where we met a lovely person who drove Nanu to his adopter up near the North Pole…

Some people have asked where will Nanu live? This is the twist.

Nanu hit the jackpot, he will live in a van and travel the world with his new mum  he will be outside hiking everyday and cuddling in bed each night. They are exploring Finland soon, then heading down to Spain for the summer.

We couldn’t have imagined a less conventional adoption for our crazy boy and everything lined up perfectly. He ADORES car rides and was made for adventures  and his new mum will make sure he packs every day full of adventures. For as many days as he has, whether that’s 20 or 2000. We can’t predict what’s to come but we know Nanu landed in his FOREVER and it’s another miracle which will keep us going and inspire us for a long time to come.

Behave yourself sweet boy and make the most of your new life. You deserve everything, and more!
